Crochet Hat Sizing Information...

Here is a chart with some of the information that I have collected over the past few months.  I honestly have NO idea where I have gotten most of these sizes from exactly, I just know that they are pretty common and are basically what I use when creating a pattern.

Abbey Hat Preemie Crochet Pattern


H Hook ~ Worsted Weight Yarn
Preemie Size

Chain 4, sl st to 1st ch to join OR Magic Circle

RND 1 - Ch1, 8 hdc in center ring, sl st to 1st hdc, ch 1 (8 st)

RND 2 - 2 hdc in each st around, sl st to 1st st to join, ch 1 (16 st)

RND 3 - 2 hdc in 1st st, *hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st* repeat around, hdc in last st, sl st to 1st st to join, ch 1 (24 st)

RND 4 - 2 hdc in 1st st, *hdc in next 2 st, 2 hdc in next st* repeat around, hdc in last 2 st, sl st to 1st st to join, ch 1 (32 st)
Body - Chain 3 counts as first dc throughout

RND 5 - Ch 3, dc in same st as sl st, 2 dc in next st, skip next 2 st, *2 dc in each next 2 st, skip next 2 st* repeat around, sl st to 1st st to join (32 st)

RND 6 - sl st into next st, ch 3, dc in same st as sl st, 2 dc in next st, skip next 2 st, *2 dc in each next 2 st, skip next 2 st* repeat around, sl st to 1st st to join, ch 1

RND 7 - Repeat round 6

RND 8 - Repeat round 6

Edging -

RND 9 - Ch 1, sc in each st around, tie off and weave in ends.
