love the picture....can't wait to get going on this...I should be a front/back post pro by the end!
ReplyDeleteI am working on a hat to match now! <3
ReplyDeleteApparently I am missing something, but how many do I chain for the first row?
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm not sure either!
DeleteIf you want to chain and then do the first row of double crochet you would chain 19, double crochet in 3rd chain from hook... Its explained in the comments below...
DeleteI used the Foundation Double Crochet to begin this project.
I used the Foundation Double Crochet and did a total of 17 stitches, if you would feel more comfortable with a regular chain for the foundation and then a row of double crochet you can do 19 ch, dc in 3rd ch from hook...
ReplyDeleteIf you would like more information on the Foundation Double Crochet I have a tutorial video: http://www.diamondcrochetcrafts.blogspot.com/2012/01/foundation-double-crochet-video.html
And a written tutorial:http://diamondcrochetcrafts.blogspot.com/2011/12/how-to-do-foundation-double-crochet.html
Please feel free to let me know if you need any further assistance! <3
You will have to copy and paste the links, or just click on "TUTORIALS" at the top of the page and they are all listed alphabetically by the stitch name! (There are more coming! lol)

ReplyDeleteI'm going to finally try the "basket weave"... I love making scarves and yours looks inviting. Thanks for all your great instructions. You are definitely "bookmarked".
ReplyDeleteApproximately how much yarn did you use? The skein I am using only comes in 208 yd length (4oz). I want to make sure I have enough yarn! Thank you this is a great pattern!!
ReplyDeleteI'm just a beginner so forgive the stupid question but when you say double crochet is that US double crochet (UK treble) or UK double crochet (US single)? I wish everyone used the same terminology - it makes reading patterns so much harder when you're just starting out.
ReplyDeleteI do apologize. These are in us terms. Double Crochet in my patterns would be the US Double Crochet. I definitely understand what you mean about the confusing differences! If you like there are some videos (not long) under the "Tutorials" tab on the top.
DeleteHope that helps!

ReplyDeleteJust started this pattern ..it seems pretty straightforward to me. I used a regular chain to start since fdc confuses me. I love together effect this stitch creates! I'm using it to make scarves for a couple of male family members, and I think that it'll be just masculine enough without losing the prettiness. :) Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThis pattern is beautiful - thanks for it.
ReplyDeleteIn Beginning FDC instruction, is there a yo after ch 1 or once ch 1 is done, it is pulled through the first 2 stitches also?
Thank you.
Anonymous, I had the sam question, but the the chain one is actually like just pulling through the first loop of the 3 loops on the hook for the dc. :-) Then you treat the new 3 loops on the hook like a dc and pull through the first two and then the last two. Hope that helps!
ReplyDeleteIs "hdc" half double crochet?
ReplyDeleteHow much yarn do I use for the scarf? I have lots of one skein colors, but would hate to run out of yarn before finished. Thanks, Linda.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!!
